Indianapolis Colts - Horses, A Symbol Of Speed And Agility

Freddie Brister asked:

Human beings raise above all the species of the Animal Kingdom. We are the most intellectual creatures as we can rationalize; show emotions, do logical tasks, speak with words and many skills that are evident to every person living. Despite it all, animals symbolically represent the characteristics of the humankind. Sometimes, animals are personified in statements. This figure of speech is not only important in making poetry. However, they are used to rationalize the strengths within humans. Moreover, there is no other way to describe them but through animals.

In the field of sports, a group of men forming a team creates logos in their uniforms to represent them as a whole. All of their qualities are being backed up by a particular creature abundant in their hometowns or what they can see the best to describe their performance. One of the commonly used symbols is the horse. These warm-blooded creatures are not only gifted with good equine intelligence but they are also the symbolism of speed, agility and manhood. No wonder most sports in United States and across the world, utilize this creature as part of their logos.

Some of the teams that use them are:

1.Indianapolis Colts- Although they do not have the shape of the horse on their logo, they used a horseshoe for it. Their name is derived from its male variety. This was the former Baltimore team. They were one of the first 11 members when NFL was founded. They changed their name as such because of the financial difficulties they faced from their loss.

2.Cornwall Colts- This is a hockey team from Canada. They were the champions for the Bogart Cup, 4 times in 1995-1996 and 2000-2001.They also won the Fred Cup but never got a title to the Royal Bank Cup.

3.Denver Broncos- The team from Denver Colorado founded in 1959. They have two logos with horses in it. All are in the shades of orange and blue. In the early days, they never had titles in the AFC but in 1997-98, they became the Super bowl Champions.

Horses are not only used to represent teams in baseball, football or hockey. They are used as a symbol for luxury cars. The famous Ferrari, the famous Italian sports car, uses a black stallion with shield as their symbol. They are also famous for their sleek and **** automobile appearance with speed you cannot get in your ordinary cars. Ford Mustang is also one of the to-die for cars that you can get. It is one of the so-called “dream cars” for many men. Their famous logo is a mustang running wild. This car is also used for racing. If you have one of this, whether old or not, you will be glad to have it overhauled. Moreover, when you do, you can have people will turn their heads upon hearing the roar of the engine.

Horses are good representation for any team sports like football. Indianapolis Colts, Cornwall and Denver Broncos are just some of the professionals using their logo. Moreover, as for cars, well most of them using horses as logo are built for speed. Therefore, if you want to be the next fast and the furious on your streets think horses.

The Off-Season Moves and Draft Picks of the New England Patriots

Jason Oconnor asked:

The New England Patriots made some great draft picks and other off-season moves recently. While some of the early New England Patriots changes confused some sports fans, they now look to be putting together a very solid team full of talent. Even though the Patriots lost some good players they made up for it by signing some great new players to the team as well as re-signing some of the strong players from last season.
Of the players leaving the team, the two that stand out the most are Dillon and Sauerbrun. Todd Sauerbrun leaves on bad terms after filing a grievance against the Patriots claiming he should be an unrestricted free agent. He takes his punting skills to the Denver Broncos in a one-year deal. The Patriots can either draft a new punter or have Josh Miller take over the punting duties.

The Pats obtained some new youth and energy in their defense with the pick of Brandon Meriweather from the Miami Hurricanes. Mariweather is a fairly small safety, but is full of energy, is very quick, and always plays hard. He runs the 40 meter dash in less than five seconds and has made over two hundred and fifty tackles in his last thirty-one starts with the Hurricanes. However, Meriweather is not known as such a wonderful person off the field, so hopefully his attitude will not get in the way.

The Patriots also made headlines by signing Randy Moss. Last season the Patriots went all the way to the AFC Championship without a good selection of wide receivers, and QB Tom Brady lamented. Randy Moss is a great fix to that problem along with new receivers Stallworth, Welker, and Washington. Randy Moss has not been performing as well as he could with Oakland because he did not have a good quarterback to work with.

Now with Brady as quarterback there is little doubt that Moss will perform up to expectations. Randy Moss has played in a hundred and thirty eight NFL games and has caught over six hundred passes for over ten thousand yards. And all the Patriots had to trade away to get Moss was a fourth round pick! What a deal.

The Patriots also made some solid moves this off-season that did not make headlines. They resigned the fantastic Junior Seau, as well as Randall *** and Eric Alexander. New England also picked up some solid players that do not yet have a name for themselves such as Kareem Brock, Clint Oldenburg, Justin Rogers, Mike Richardson, and more.

Last season the Patriots were a great team but lacked the wide receivers to make the best use of Tom Brady. This year they will still have Tom Brady, a great team of wide receivers led by Randy Moss, and an even superior defense with Junior Seau returning and the new Brandon Mariweather. There is little doubt that the Patriots will be a contender for Super Bowl 42 in 2007.

Denver Broncos - Football Stadiums Loved by America

Freddie Brister asked:

Americans love the NFL just as they love baseball. It is not only the perfect time to eat hotdogs and popcorn while cheering on the stand, it is also the perfect time to give support for those people who are doing their best to give glory to their state. What is not to love about NFL? When in fact, it is the sport that gives you adrenalin rush and it keeps you on your feet every time a fumble occurs. Moreover, the best part in here is just being on the football stadium, with the sun shinning bright and the wind breezing on your faces, making a perfect blend of happiness as you cheer for your home team.

Yes, the stadium makes a big impact. The bigger the stadium, the more spectators you have. It is not only how the stadium looks like but also it is all about where the players are playing. They say there is a home court advantage when football players defend their name on their own field. There is a certain phenomenon in every sport where in ball games played at your hometown create a different aura, giving players a good chance of winning a game. Well it does not necessarily follow but most of the time players win when played on their hometown.

There are great football stadiums in America. Among them are:

1. Mile High Stadium- This was formerly the home court of Denver Broncos. It is not only a football stadium but it is also the playing ground of their baseball and soccer teams. They have been considered a football sanctuary in all of the years it served for football because of their high numbers in selling out tickets for the game. It has a seating capacity of 76,123 as of 1980.

2. Texas Stadium- This was built for the Texas Cowboys because their former owners wanted to have their own field. When their community approved it, the construction started in 1969 and the Cowboys scored their first points in this field around 1971. It is considered unique because of its shaped (wherein it is partially closed and it has an opening in the center). It has a seating capacity of over 65,000.

3. Orange Bowl- This is one of the stadiums that will have made history in football. It is the home court of the Dolphins. Formerly known as the Burden Stadium, this 74,476 seating capacity, has been a major factory for the winnings of their team, as well as their NCAA teams.

4. Paul Brown Stadium- This is one of the best places to hold a football game. Their structure is stunning and it has brought a lot of entertainment to the football fanatics of Ohio. They have great amenities and it is one of the favorite in building and structure in America.

The stadiums mentioned above are either existing or demolished but the Denver Broncos, Texas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins and Cincinnati Bengals should all be proud of these structures. These structures are not only factors in winning but it is where football history unfolds. It is a place where there roars are heard out loud.

Buy, Watch Or Pass - Week 9

Alex The Great asked:

Buy, Watch or Pass

Every week, I will examine some of the more obscure top performers in Fantasy Football. Here are the names I came across in Week 9:

QB’s

Jake Plummer, Denver Broncos 227 pass yds, 3 TD’s

While Jake Plummer isn’t really an obscure name, he more than likely is available in a good majority of leagues due to his poor start of this season. Before his game on Week 8, it was reported that if Plummer struggled the next 2 weeks, then he would be benched in favor of rookie first round pick Jay Cutler. Apparently that was all the motivation Plummer needed, as he was much improved for the second straight week against a tough Steelers defense. Is it time to jump on the bandwagon? I’m going to say not yet. The schedule isn’t in his favor, so I need to see more before I decide. He has some nice matchups come fantasy playoff time, so let’s see how he does the next couple weeks to make sure he has returned to form. WATCH

David Garrard, Jacksonville Jaguars 177 pass yds, 3 TD’s

Byron Leftwich may be done as Jacksonville’s starting QB this year, and maybe even forever. And I quote from head coach Jack Del Rio, “A healthy guy that’s playing well is a no-brainer for me. His (Leftwich) ankle is 85 to 90 percent and it’s probably not going to get much better than that until he gets a long period of time off.” It certainly sounds to me like David Garrard is now the man and he has without doubt played well enough to earn it. He threw for 177 yards & 3 touchdowns against Tennessee on Sunday and has a 102.9 passer rating on the year. While it has only been 2 games, he has a weak schedule against secondaries & the tools on offense to become a top fantasy QB the rest of the way. If you own Byron Leftwich, pick up Garrard immediately. BUY if you own Byron Leftwich, WATCH for everyone else.

Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys 284 pass yds, 2 TD’s

I’ve talked a lot about Tony Romo in my past articles, yet, I look around and he is still available in a lot of leagues. He continued to shine on Sunday against the Redskins by completing 66% of his passes for 284 yards, 2 touchdowns and no interceptions. He now has a very nice 93.7 passer rating. He has nothing but weak to average secondaries the rest of the way. With the weapons he has, he will be an elite QB from here on out. What are you waiting for!? BUY

Damon Huard, Kansas City Chiefs 148 pass yds, 3 TD’s

Trent Green is nearing his return, but Damon Huard is continuing to put up solid numbers in his stead. With Larry Johnson running all over St. Louis on Sunday, Huard just needed to manage game, which is what he did. He threw only 15 passes, completed 10 for 148 yards & 3 TD’s. Since coming in for Green, Huard has posted a robust 105.2 passer rating and has the Chiefs in the thick of the playoff hunt. There are many people who question whether or not Green should return as the starter, but head coach Herm Edwards says most likely Green will be back Week 11 against Oakland. There is one more team on the Chiefs schedule that has a mediocre secondary, and that’s next week against Miami. If you need a fill in QB for next week, Huard makes an excellent choice. The secondaries get rough after that, so even if Huard stays as the starter, his value may decrease in a hurry. Keep your eye on him though, 105.2 passer ratings don’t grow on trees. BUY for this week’s matchup, everyone else should continue to WATCH

RB’s

Anthony Thomas, Buffalo Bills 95 rush yds, 1 TD

Willis McGahee went down on Sunday with a broken rib and Anthony Thomas came in and played very well. So you would think Thomas would get the start next week, but its possible McGahee could be back and starting. I have a hard time believing that he’ll be back that quickly, but you never know. In any case, Thomas goes up against a very weak rushing defense in Indianapolis, so he could have some good value. It should be noted that Buffalo could be so far behind before half time that he may not have many chances to run, so you’ll need to take that into consideration. Buffalo has 4 opponents remaining with weak rushing defenses; next week against Indy, Week 11 against Houston, Week 14 against the New York Jets & Week 16 against Tennessee. If Buffalo decides to shut down McGahee at some point this season, Thomas could be a nice asset to have. BUY if you are a McGahee owner, for everyone else, WATCH

Maurice Morris, Seattle Seahawks 138 rush yds

It took awhile, but Maurice Morris finally had his first good game as a starter on Monday night. He rushed for 138 yards on 30 carries against the pitiful Oakland Raiders. If you did own Morris, I’d hope the only reason was because you also own Shaun Alexander, who will be back next week against St. Louis. Even if Alexander re-injures himself, Morris is a mediocre backup at best. The usefulness of Morris has reached its end. PASS

WR’s

Devery Henderson, New Orleans Saints 111 rec yds, 2 TD’s

With Joe Horn out with a groin injury, Devery Henderson stepped in and played well. He hauled in 3 catches for 111 yards & 2 touchdowns. While he could have been a nice pickup if Horn was out for an extended period of time, that is not the case, as Horn is expected to come back next week. Drew Brees is throwing the ball around nicely in New Orleans, but you can’t be a beneficiary if you aren’t starting full time. PASS

Ernest Wilford, Jacksonville Jaguars 44 rec yds, 2 TD’s

Ernest Wilford began the season as a sleeper, but didn’t end up doing much until Sunday. Even with those 2 touchdowns, he only had 3 receptions. Wilford is a big body that is useful in goal line situations, but hasn’t shown much else besides that. With Garrard now throwing the ball Wilford may become useful down the stretch, but until more develops, he’s too much of a risk to start. WATCH

Braylon Edwards, Cleveland Browns 61 rec yds, 1 TD

After 4 weeks into the season, Braylon Edwards had 324 yards on 20 catches & 1 TD. Most of us thought he was on his way to becoming a star, but has been anything but that since then. During his next three games, Edwards had 54 yards on 7 catches & zero touchdowns. Well, Mr. Edwards has finally shown up again, hauling in 6 catches for 61 yards and a touchdown on Sunday. While I can’t say he’s back, it was nice to see he still knows how to play football. I can’t entirely blame him, with a mediocre offensive line & young quarterback; a lot of offensive players have struggled in Cleveland this year. His schedule the rest of the way isn’t all that bad, so he might be a surprise player down the stretch if Cleveland’s offense has figured things out again. Keep an eye out for him if he’s available. WATCH

Cincinnati Bengals Tickets- Bengals Tally First Win of Season

Julie Cudney asked:

The Cincinnati Bengals left the Detroit Lions as the last winless team in the NFL during week nine when they tallied a narrow 21-19 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Bengals had previously struggled this season, starting out week one with a 17-10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. That was followed by a 24-7 loss to the Tennessee Titans, a 26-23 loss to the defending Super Bowl Champion New York Giants, a 20-12 loss to the neighboring Cleveland Browns, a 31-22 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, a 26-14 loss to the New York Jets, a 38-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers and a 35-6 loss to the Houston Texans. The win gives Bengals fans a glimmer of hope and a record of 1-8. If you want to see them live, you can get Cincinnati Bengals tickets at http://www.stubhub.com/cincinnati-bengals-tickets/.

The Bengals had 312 yards of offense during the match against the Jaguars, compared to Jacksonville’s 282. Cincinnati quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was 21of 31 for 162 yards, two touchdowns, one interception and a passer rating of 88.4. While it may not be a record-setting rating, it is a drastic improvement from his rating of 48.3 last week against the Texans. They also saw dividends paying from the addition of former Chicago Bear running back Cedric Benson. Benson was released from the Bears after a few incidents involving alcohol and the police before coming to Cincinnati. Against the Jaguars, Benson had 104 yards and one touchdown on 24 carries. Fitzpatrick himself also had three carries for 52 yards. The Jaguars’ quarterback David Garrard was 23 of 38 for 229 yards, no touchdowns, one interception and a passer rating of 66.7.

It was the Bengals who drew the first blood during the game when Fitzpatrick connected with Chad Johnson on a two yard pass in the first quarter. Johnson and Fitzpatrick would connect again in the second quarter for a 10-yard touchdown pass to make the score 14-0. The Jaguars finally got on the board with a 52 yard field goal by Josh Scobee to finish out the first half. The third quarter would see only one score, a seven-yard touchdown run by Cedric Benson. Now up 21-3, the Bengals seemed to have the win in the bag, but the Jaguars weren’t giving up so easily. Scobee knocked through a 26 yard field goal to start the scoring in the third quarter. Later, Montell Owens scooped up a fumble and returned it 18 yards for a Jaguar touchdown. With just over a minute remaining, the Jaguars’ Maurice Jones-Drew had a one-yard touchdown run. If the Jaguars could complete a two-point conversion after the score, they could tie the game. Fortunately for the Bengals, they were unsuccessful, and the game finished with the Bengals up 21-19.

The Jaguars are 3-5 after the loss, also losing to the Tennessee Titans during week one, the Buffalo Bills during week two, the Pittsburgh Steelers during week five and the Cleveland Browns during week eight. Surprisingly, the Jaguars haven’t tallied wins against weak teams and knocked off the Indianapolis Colts during week three, the Houston Texans during week four and the Denver Broncos during week six.

4 Enormous Seasons for the New York Giants and the Big Apple

Rick Grantham asked:

For over 80 years, the New York Giants have represented the Big Apple, in a big way. Since 1925, the team has played in five stadiums, won three Super Bowls, had 27 pro football Hall of Famers, and retired 11 players’ jersey numbers. There have been several memorable moments in over eight decades of Giants history. While it is quite difficult to define ONE as most memorable, several of them are certainly noteworthy:

1. 1925 Season

According to reliable sources, Tim Mara bought the Giants for $500. Mara was a businessperson and promoter. At the time, the NFL (and subsequently the Giants themselves) was struggling. However, the Giants encountered a huge turning point during their first season. On December 11th, the Giants faced the Chicago Bears. Roughly 70,000 fans watched the game live! The Giants would split a two-game series with the Bears, ending the season with a record of 8-4.

2. 1986 Season

During the previous season, the Giants had lost to the Chicago Bears (21-0) in the NFC championship game. This season, they were ready to stomp the competition! The Giants completed the regular season with an outstanding 14-2 record. In the playoffs, they demolished the San Francisco 49ers (49-3), and then blanked the Washington Redskins (17-0). In Super Bowl XXI, the Giants nearly doubled the Denver Broncos score (39-20). Coach Bill Parcells’ “Gatorade Bath” completed the Giants’ larger-than-life season.

3. 1990 Season

The Giants played yet another solid season, ending with a 13-3 record. After losing their starting quarterback, Phil Simms, everyone wondered how deep the Giants would proceed in the playoffs. Quarterback Jeff Hostetler answered. The Giants demolished the Chicago Bears (31-3), and then edged the San Francisco 49ers (15-13), after adding Joe Montana to their list of Quarterback casualties. Super Bowl XXV was another tight game, with the Giants sneaking past the Buffalo Bills (20-19).

4. 2007 Season

While the Giants started on rocky ground, they soldiered out the season, ending with a 10-6 record. In the playoffs, the Giants sank the Tampa Bay Bucs (24-14), defeated the Dallas Cowboys on an endzone interception in the final play of the game (21-17), and then edged the Green Bay Packers in OT (23-20). In Super Bowl XLII, the Giants faced the New England Patriots, who were attempting to complete a perfect season-literally. Tom Brady and the Patriots had become renowned for winning close games in the Super Bowl. However, it was the Giants’ QB, Eli Manning, who delivered on his team’s last drive of the game. Scoring with 39 ticks on the clock, the Giants won their third Super Bowl trophy. The 1972 Miami Dolphins remained the only unbeaten team in the history of the NFL.

The New York Giants have had enormous seasons throughout their history. Certainly, their Super Bowl victories have been in some of their most memorable seasons. Giants fans hope that their favorite NFL team will earn more NFL championships. Use New York Giants merchandise to cheer on the team to another gargantuan season!

What are the Top 10 Sports Mascots?

Amy Nutt asked:

The team mascot has refined the way in which sports entertain. The mascot is that iconic figure that sets a team apart from the rest. They motivate the crowd, they please children, and they add something to the team that is very special. That explains why there are some mascots that are quite memorable in their appearance, their traditions, and in how they motivate. When people see the top mascots in the world, they never forget them.

The top 10 sports mascots

The top 10 sports mascots are those mascots that leave an everlasting impression on people. They are the ones that people want to see just as much as they want to see the team that the mascot represents. Basically, being a sports mascot is a really bit deal and it can really make a person famous.

Here are the top 10 sports mascots:

- Phillie Phanatic, the Philadelphia Phillies mascot is one that can’t be forgotten with that green fur and big nose. Debuting in 1978, Phillie Phanatic heckles opposing players, rides around on a motorbike, and does all kinds of strange stunts.

- San Diego Chicken is the mascot for the San Diego Padres. This is the original mascot that leads all mascots. This chicken is very recognizable because it makes appearances at other events as well.

- Mr. Met is the mascot for the New York Mets and has been around since the 1960s. There are not many people who can say they haven’t seen Mr. Met at one time or another, whether in person or on TV.

- The Racing Sausages are the mascots for the Milwaukee Brewers. There are five of them all dressed as a different type of sausage. During halftime, the five of them race around the field. This is something that started in 1995 and has remained ever since.

- Benny the Bull, the mascot for the Chicago Bulls started entertaining basketball fans almost 50 years ago. He dances, does stunts, and also attends private events.

- Rally Monkey is the Los Angeles Angels mascot and is more or less a stuffed monkey that people wave around at games. Now Rally Monkey has been seen in movies and even has a web store.

- Sourdough Sam, the mascot for the San Francisco 49ers, looks like a gold panner to represent the Gold Rush of 1849 that gave the 49ers their name. Everyone can easily spot that large head and humongous hat.

- Rowdy, the Dallas Cowboy’s mascot, has been around since 1996 and has been received very well. He revs up the crowd, throws t-shirts into the crowd, and makes appearances at over 300 events a year.

- Rally is the mascot of the Atlanta Braves. He was shut down just a couple of years ago, but still appeals to many of the fans because he had been around for over 20 years. To some he may have seemed bland because he was just a red monster with a lot of hair. To others he was much more than that.

- Miles the Denver Broncos was revealed in 2001. He is a bucking bronco that crowd surfs and expresses game thoughts on his own personal website.

These are the ten mascots that stand out the most. Even if the mascot is no longer in action, that mascot still makes an impression on people today. Without mascots revving up the crowds, giving things away, mingling with the kids, and doing stunts, the sports event would be something entirely different. The crowds would not be cheering and if they’re not cheering the team is not going to feel motivated by their crowd. That just shows the type of role that mascots play in making sure the game experience for all parties involved is one to never be forgotten.

A Brief History Of American Football

Rick Grantham asked:

American Football was derived from early versions of soccer and rugby football, both of which originated from the United Kingdom, mid-1800s. Both soccer and rugby, and thus American football, have the objective of kicking the ball to a goal or over a line. Similar to soccer, American football also involves twenty-two players on the field. American football terms such as “fullback” and halfback,” which refer to positions, were also derived from the soccer sport. American football resulted from a major divergence from the rules of rugby football, as instituted by Walter Camp, considered to be the “Father of American Football.”

The Father of American Football

Walter Camp instituted the rules of American football in 1879. Born April 17, 1859 in New Haven, Connecticut, Walter Camp studied medicine and business in Yale from 1976 to 1882. He was a man of many talents, being an author, director of the Pecks Brother Company, and chairman of the board for the New Haven Clock Company. He was also the head advisory football coach and general athletic director at Yale from 1888 to 1914, as well as chairman of the Yale football committee. He had a major role in the evolution of American Football from the game of Soccer and Rugby, as we know the sport today. Chief to Walter Camp’s influence in changing the rules of the game was William Ebb Ellis, a student in an English Rugby School who was the first person known for picking up the soccer ball during a game and running with it towards the goal. It was in the Massosoit Convention in 1876 when the first attempt of establishing the rules for American football was made. Walter Camp edited the American Football rulebook until his last days in 1925.

Newly Established Rules

The important changes that were made by Walter Camp to establish American Football as a sport include the down-and-distance and line of scrimmage rules. He also standardized the scoring system using a numerical scoring and created the interference, safety, penalties, and neutral zone. He also established the rule that one side had undisputed possession of the ball until the ball is given up due to the said team’s violations. He also created the center and quarter-back positions, the forward pass, and the eleven on a team instead of fifteen. By the late 19th and early 20th centuries, further developments to the rules of American Football were made by college coaches such as Knute Rockne, Amos Alonzo Stagg, Eddie Cochems, and Glenn “Pop” Warner.

Going Pro

By the first half of the 20th century, college football became more popular than rugby football and soccer. Bowl games, an inter-collegiate competition attracted a national audience, bolstering fierce rivalries among college football teams. The American Professional Football Association was soon formed in 1920 and two years later was changed to the National Football League (NFL), which became the major league of American Football. Today, there are numerous Pro American Football teams representing different states such as the Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, and New York Giants.

2007 Nfl Betting: Analyzing the Afc West

Karol Lucan asked:

SAN DIEGO CHARGERS (14-2 SU, 9-7 ATS): New Head Coach Norv Turner takes over from conservative Marty Schottenheimer. Turner figures to open up the offense, not that you want to stray too far from handing the ball off the NFL MVP LaDainian Tomlinson. Known for developing quarterbacks, Turner should help Pro Bowler Philip Rivers, now in his second year as a starter. The line is nasty and TE Antonio Gates is the best at his position but Rivers lacks a stud wide receiver. The 3-4 defense, led by LB Shawn Merriman and NT Jamal Williams, is top notch. San Diego is a definite Super Bowl contender.

By the Numbers (Regular Season, 1998-2006)

SU: 66-78

ATS: 72-65-7

HF: 19-16-2

HD: 14-16

AF: 9-8

AD: 29-22-5

Sportsbook Buster: The Chargers are 7-1 ATS versus the Raiders, the last eight meetings.

Sports Betting Angle: San Diego is 13-2 ATS as an underdog in its second straight road game.

DENVER BRONCOS (9-7 SU, 5-11 ATS): The Broncos were busy in the off-season, making a series of moves that could land them back in the playoffs after missing the post-season party for the first time since 2002, last year. RB Travis Henry, TE Daniel Graham, DT Sam Adams and QB Patrick Ramsey (a backup to Jay Cutler) all came via free agency while CB Dre Bly was garnered in a trade with Detroit. The offense figures to pound the ball on the ground with Henry while the defense, which allowed 26.1 PPG over the final 10 games of the season, will get an aggressive tune-up from new coordinator Jim Bates.

ATS: 71-66-7

HF: 31-35-3

AD: 18-10-1

Sportsbook Buster: The Broncos are a combined 1-9-2 against the Bears (Nov. 25) and Vikings (Dec. 30).

Sports Betting Angle: Denver is 1-10 ATS coming off a SU win as an underdog.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (9-7 SU, 8-8 ATS): Priest Holmes is back in camp as insurance against a protracted holdout by Larry Johnson, the heart of the Chiefs running attack. With steady but unspectacular Damon Huard replacing Trent Green at quarterback, KC will need Johnson to bring some much needed stability to the offense. The drafting of speedy WR Dwayne Bowe could open up lanes for superb TE Tony Gonzalez but the offensive line is a real concern. The addition of LBs Donnie Edwards and Napoleon Harris should boost the performance of an improving defense.

Sportsbook Buster: The Chiefs are 7-1-2 ATS versus the Chargers, the previous 10 meetings.

Sports Betting Angle: At 40-27-4 ATS, Kansas City has proven to be a solid play at home.

OAKLAND RAIDERS (2-14 SU, 6-10 ATS): At 31, Lane Kiffin will be the NFL’s youngest head coach, a job made all the more difficult by an offense that averaged just over 10 points a game last season. Franchise quarterback JaMarcus Russell, the No. 1 overall pick, will bring some excitement—-but probably not too many wins—-in his first season with the silver and black. Kiffin has a stronger hand on defense where the Raiders finished third overall in yards allowed and first in pass against the pass last year.

Champ Bailey 1999 Draft Day Pick

Bob Johnson asked:

Champ Bailey was born on June 22, 1978 in Folkston, Georgia. Although most people know him by the name “Champ” his real name is actually Roland. His mother gave him the nickname early on in life thanks to his many athletic achievements. It is safe to say that she was dead on when thinking that Bailey would be a great athlete in one sport or the next. Since his early playing days he has always been one of the best players on the field.

After a successful high school career Bailey went on to play at the University of Georgia. While playing for Georgia he became known as one of the top defensive players in the entire country. Opposing teams rarely had the chance to throw the ball on Bailey. And if they did it usually ended up as an interception.

In the 1999 NFL Draft the Washington Redskins selected Bailey with the seventh pick in the first round. Although many people felt that this was a bad choice, the Redskins were in much need of an outstanding cover corner.

Before the 2004 season got underway, Bailey was traded to the Denver Broncos. This trade was imminent, and both parties saw it coming long before the trade actually took place. After the trade Bailey signed a seven year contract worth approximately $63 million.

Bailey has been named to the All Pro Team on three occasions, and has also made the Pro Bowl team for the last seven seasons. This has solidified him as quite possibly the best cornerback in the league.

With a high level of athleticism and a good feel for the game, Champ Bailey has always been a great player. It is safe to say that he still has several more great seasons left in the tank. As long as the Broncos have him playing on the defensive side of the ball they have a good chance of winning!
